WHAT WE DO
The CONFIDANZ Series was created to provide a safe space to begin a conversation with collaborators, in this case, a dialogue between photographer and dancer, along with basic photographic tools that may create a sense of familiarity when presented with the opportunity work in a photoshoot. The series has been currently developed into a four part series. The series is used as a way to begin the practice of feeling more confident when collaborating with other artists. It is a reminder that one should not have to change who they are but, value oneself and admire themselves physically. These workshops cater to replenish the dancer’s knowledge from a photographer’s perspective, allowing them to know exactly what they’re walking into prior to attending the shoot.
what we offer
CONFIDANZ is divided into four main classes; The Checklist, Lighting, Headshots & Bodyshots. Each of these classes is accompanied with a photoshoot at the end of the class. The photoshoot is implemented so that the students can incorporate some of the information that was given prior to that day’s session. The program is still growing and a variety of other classes are waiting to be materialized onto the program in the near future.
1. THE CHECKLIST
The first class is more of a ‘tool box’. The class discusses the first steps one should take before agreeing to a photoshoot, whether a collaborative or paid project. Discussions about understanding things such as; legal rights, outside contractors as opposed to resident photographers, what one may need to bring to the session, and some suggested or appropriate language exchange between both artists. All of which adds up as tools that are accessible when necessary & applied accordingly to each shoot.
2. LIGHTING
Lighting is the most important part of photography. This class explains the basics of what lighting is from the photographer’s perspective. The differences between harsh verses light, studio verses natural, and definitions of dark and light. Light is crucial and this information allows the dancer being photographed have an advantage when stepping into a shoot, along with a little more confidence.
3. HEADSHOTS
Participants get to explore a full headshot session with reminders of details from the classes prior. This session is guiding, assisting and suggesting ways to relax facial muscles, increasing postures, and adjusting the body’s arrangement within the frame.
4. BODYSHOTS
A full body awareness comes into place in this session. Full body portraits entail lines, shapes, initial gestures, consciousness of all limbs, intentions of movements, intentions of directions alongside temperatures, tones, movement of clothing, while keeping in mind the lighting mood. Making sure each participant is comfortable and fulfilled.
